This week I'll be sharing a few photos with overly dramatized descriptions from a trip that I just took to the Kahiltna Glacier of the Alaska Range.
This is JD Merritt on one of the many traversing pitches of the French Route (A.K.A. Garrison-Tedeschi) on the North Buttress of Mt. Hunter. The ancient ice on these upper bands was bullet hard; I needed to swing my tools at least four or five times before I could get a decent stick. Lots of seemingly endless pitches of lower angle ice like this drained us before we reached the notorious upper headwall on the second night.
