Tropical forests such as this here in Central #Panama have high #biodiversity. 100 acres here may be home to almost 300 species of trees, while all of the north American continent has about 1000. Protecting areas of high diversity is important for the sake of nature, and of humanity: new foods or medically active substances might well be waiting for discovery in any of these tropical forests.
