For much of the last six years, @othertimsmith has been photographing life on the colonies, in #Manitoba, Canada. The communities, which consist of between 60 and 150 residents, are almost entirely self sufficient — growing their own food, making their own clothes and building their own homes. At first, it was difficult for @othertimsmith to to persuade some members to open up. “The outside world is difficult,” he told our photo blog, Lens. “You have to pay own bills, find a job and a place to live. On the Hutterite colony, everything is taken care of for you. And everyone is like family.”
