A diver encounters a Southern Right Whale on the sea floor in the Auckland Islands of New Zealand. Once hunted to the brink of extinction, this species has slowly recovered. This population had never seen humans before when photographed by @BrianSkerry and were highly curious.
We are at a time in history when we recognize the damage that has been done to Earth's oceans and understand the actions necessary to heal and restore. All that is required is the will to act. National Geographic's Pristine Seas is a project working to help protect the last wild places in the ocean.
