Photo by @edkashi/ @viiphoto: Three young girls ages 11-13 use a paste made from the tsiambara plant's roots to beautify their skin in the tiny village of Tsiharoa,#Madagascar. They usually leave it on for 5 days and keep on redoing the process except on market days. Kashi states; “The eldest of the girls was 13, and in the course of taking her photograph I was told she had already been married for a year. This is not an uncommon occurrence, where marriage is seen as many girls’ only chance of financial security.” This image was featured in the “National Geographic Masters of Photography” course, that was recently on DVD and online. Taught by @NatGeophotographers, Ed Kashi is included in the roster of instructors for this educational resource.
