Jimmy Buffet who I first met in St Barths as I was admiring his beautiful wooden sailboat… it was the perfect size to singlehanded but you could also take a couple friends along with you. From that day on I called him my “Lifestyle Guru” more for what he didn’t buy than for what he did. He really knew how to live and from what I could see he kept it simple and real. He was my favorite person to bump into in the Hamptons. He always had a warm smile A twinkle in his eyes and something nice to say. He helped me rescue one of my kids who had somehow managed to get down on some boulders in the harbor but were to slippery to get back up. I remember the party he threw for his beloved wife Janie’s 50th…he put together such a loving photo tribute that made the whole room smile as they watched. I’m thinking of her and their kids with love and so much sympathy for their tremendous loss. We also lost another legend yesterday,the honorable Bill Richardson. I met him when he was the head of the Department of Energy. I had become aware of the Nuclear Power Plant in our area leaking radioactive Tritium into the Peconic River for 12 years. experts believed it was causing a very rare soft tissue Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer in children, so I was determined to get that plant shut. After supplying lots of evidence and scientific data compiled by an organization I worked with , the S.T.A.R. Foundation, he courageously shut it down. It’s hard for most politicians to say no to nukes snd oil as they rely on their donations for campaigning but Bill Richardson put our kids health first! Thanks to Bill Richardson Long Island is a nuclear free zone and our children will be healthier as a result. We thanked him with our “Environmental Hero Award” At our benefit he danced up a storm and charmed all who met him .
