A wild, giant Bluefin Tuna, likely weighing more than 1000-pounds, feeds on a piece of herring in Canada's Gulf of St. Lawrence. Migrating along ancient migratory routes, they come to these cold waters in the fall to feed on oily fish like herring and mackerel.
Being underwater in the presence of such an animal is to witness the divine sense of nature. These are fish that generate heat in their bodies, swim thousands of miles across the ocean each year and swim faster than a torpedo. The Atlantic Bluefin also continues to grow its entire life and were they not hunted so vigorously, there might be 30-year old bluefin out there weighing over a ton. Unfortunately these creature don’t grow to that size anymore because we have become far too efficient at catching them.
